Post subject:  Engine Help!

Okay, i did something stupid and im not sure why, but anyway once i put my head back on i tightened up the nuts and whatnot but not tight enough, poured cooland in the radiator and it leaked out the thermosat housing, not too bad i thought just needa get some gasket stuff to seal it up properly. well today i removed the head and low and beho.ld the coolant has leaked inbetweeen here and the block, and into where the puushrods sit. will i have to strip down my engine to clean all this crap out or will i be able to use some sort of flush to get the remaining coolant out because i think it has mixed with the remains of the oil...i did not sart the engine by the way. cheers guys, i wish i thought before i did things

Hmm..that's a tough one...good thing you didn't start it.

Did you use a torque wrench to tighten the head?

I'm not sure what the deal is mixing oil with coolant...

I'd drain the oil for a couple of days maybe, refill, run it up to temp and drain it again..maybe repeat a few times until your confident it's clean..

nah i didnt use a tourque wrench i was trying to find one, and i got sick of seeing the green bottle sitting around. i wont be starting for a while so i might leave the head off and let some of the coolant evaporate out, thank you for your help, i was dreading the pulling of the engine apart! :(

Take off the inspection plates and put a chux into each cam follower and soak up the coolant if you get most of it you should be ok.

I would drain the oil- coolant is heavier than oil, and if any is sitting in there the pump will pick it up, and it won't help the bearings..

Is the motor in or out ...Drain it refile with oil (cheap Big W stuff) and re drain it.
If you have not turned the motor over she should be fine ...just dribled
