Hey guys well I am looking at a 1275 engine and have a few questions.... 1. Is buying a non complete engine viable?? 2. Apart from the head do there seem to be any other major parts missing?? 3. Is my 73 van pudding stirrer compatible with this engine? 4. Is this a fair price for what's there or should I wait ( not made of money don't want to waste on a heap!! ) 5. Major Things to look for if i inspect.... Cheers guys jaymie |

Depending what is in that little orange box, lots of little things missing, little things all add up to a very big bill if you have to buy them new or reconditioned. Example: New 1275 Primary gear £98.00 from Minispares New idler gear £89.99 From minispares Crankshaft Woodruff Key £4 Cam is missing Pushrods $80 Timing chain sprockets Rocker cover, engine beathers list goes on and on... etc etc etc Don't let it turn you off buying it, just warning you that it all adds up if it ain't there! |

There's plenty of things that will come across external to the engine, but there are many things to watch out for which will add up the end cost. External parts like the clutch, alternator, dizzy, and many nuts and bolts will come over, but you will need new timing gears, I can't see a primary gear there, and of course the cost of the rebuild. Head studs, higher spec clutch pressure plate and a cleaned radiator. Dizzy recurve, and check the caps match the block, there are numbers on the caps which shouldmatch the same stamped numbers on the block. If not, then the cost of machining will go up by $$$. Also, ensure the drop gears are there somewhere. |

Yeah that's what i thought.... Not in a hurry just not many come up in SA but would much prefer to get a complete engine if I had more of an idea of all the little bits that matter it would help ( don't want to get jipped).... Never pulled down a mini engine..... Only other makes.. In saying That though cheers for your insight very useful |

Just notice it does say all other parts/etc saved so might be worth a message and see if everything can come with it. As has been said above or is it a case of what you see is what you get! |

Really? I can't speak of the crank, but small journal rods have caps that are bolted on at an angle to the rod centerline. These are not..? |

No Mick, it's small BORE rods are as you say. Small journal 1275 rods are either S rods or Midget rods (which look the same) without the big ugly lumps on the caps that later 1275s do. |

It's a Morris 1100S, early one with small journal crank & `S' rods. (better for performance builds than the later big journal motors, IMO.) |
