Post subject: | Oil pumps |
I have made 1 motor from 2. As a result, I have 2 of a lot of things, including oil pumps. Tonight I fitted one, but observed the following: One was worn pretty bad. Good thing I checked, as this was the one I was going to use ![]() ![]() The oil pump from the 1098 seems like an after market. There are no identity markings on it at all! ![]() The one I eventually used was this one. It says 'Patent Pending' on it ![]() ![]() Anyone know how many different pumps are available, and their origins? |

Not many different ones now for a 998/1098. Get a new one, don't trust a worn S/H one. $47 at Karcraft. Cheap! ![]() |

throw them both away - buy a new one, should be on everyone's list, when you have the front off a motor, put in a new pump... |

Once upon a time, the Cooper S pump was bigger capacity than the 998/1098 one- we used to press the (shorter) 998 shaft into an S pump and fit that in. Eventually BMC made the pump rotors the same size.. ![]() |

you can still buy a 'high capacity' pump can't you? or is that just marketing the same thing for a higher price |

or is that just marketing the same thing for a higher price There is the MiniSpares Sureflo which Karcraft bring in for S's, these are available in UK for other motors too. There are a few others too- turbo pump, steel backed pump, etc. But not for a 998 pin drive. |

Yeah anton, don't do it! Buy new... The 1100S engine that we pulled apart has a near new oil pump as well but I am still going to consider buying new. It's false economy... $47 is darn good insurance if you ask me! |
