What are the largest Thrust Bearings you can use on a CooperS main Centre. My crank has a groove in the corner and will need severe machining. |

Chris, new thrust washers come in std, +.003" and +.030". The steel back of the washer can be surface ground (some) to get your desired clearance if these sizes do not do the job out of the packet. |

The corner of the crank has a step in it. A big shame as the crank has standard thrusts and 10 bearings, being a genuine crank. Not sure if you can weld and grind the crank. |

You would need to present the crank to the machininst along with the center main bearing cap and a set of the .030 over thrusts. But before you get the thrusts, work out if the damage isn't too great to be machined out. |

I would not get it ground right out to fit .030" thrusts, I would stop grinding when it's cleaned up, and surface grind the back of .030" thrusts to suit. Reason- +.030" is thickest size you can get- what will you do for thrusts next time.. ![]() [edit] and if it's going to get a rev past 6000, .003" endfloat is NOT enough on a 1275. You want .005-.006" at least. I found out the hard way. ![]() |
