Changing drums over to discs.

Undid everything and pulled on the drum assembly and the whole drive shaft came with it including the inner ball race with balls and boot from the diff.

Can I just push it all back and retie the boot on or do I have a bigger task ahead?

Well its out - may as well clean it all up, new grease and boot then reassemble.

Just don't lose any balls and don't mix them up. Yes you can put it all back in, clean everything up and apple new grease and new boot. Use metal CV boot clips instead of cable ties if you can find them.

It was all new when I rebuilt the box - hasn't been driven so still good as new. Just surprised me the race came out like that.

Don't use regular grease in CVs or pot joints- it wants to be molygrease- eg Castrol LMM.

Pretty much nothing holding them on cept the boot ties... hence metal boot ties are what you want.

You can find these metal cable ties locally being sold as ties for header wrap. My local super-cheap didn't have a clue what I was on about until I found them in the performance section.

You can also get them from any CV place for very cheap. Note that you need different lengths

Also you can now get metal cable ties at Bunnings. You can find them in the electrical aisle along with the plastic ties.

Yep, I have a bundle of those bad boys. Slicker than plastic cable ties with no ratchet you can hear, and nowhere near as much bother as the metal band-it clamps. Just slide them up. These ones are made by Panduit.

Yeah you can, not with your fingers however. I use a pair of sidecutters and roll the handle with the band in the jaw to get the last few millimeters out of them.

I have a CV boot tie tool and it's easy as with it, so can't comment

Only thing about Mick's type tie is that the thing that sticks out may rub up against the wheel hub in the case of using them for CV joints as well? All I remember is that it's a tight squeeze on the CV joint boots against the wheel hub on disk brakes. The metal ties tap out flat... But other than that they look the business

Plus I have like 100 of them which makes the decision easier too

Yes that's true. I cut them off at about 10 to 20mm and bend them so they stay flat. They don't try to stand up really.
