Post subject:  Electrical work in Sydney

Hey guys

Decided to take the mini out seeing it was such a good day today and it was running the best it has in a long time until I get that funny smell and quickly notice the cabin filling up with smoke. After pulling over seeing the smouldering wiring in the engine bay, disconnected the battery and it all settled down without the use of the fire extinguisher.
Only a few weeks ago I asked a close by auto electric guy who I have used before to give the wiring the once over as there were a lot of cut and exposed wires. In short he obviously did a very ordinary job.
Just wondering who you guys could recommend in Sydney to work on the electrics of a 66 mini. Hopefully a full re-wire is not in order but I want to avoid another episode like today - let me say the heart almost stopped as I was lifting the bonnet not knowing what to expect.

Thanks for any assistance you can throw my way

I can recommend Reg Williamson of Annandale. It's a fair way from Parramatta and there'll be dozens between you but he runs an old fashioned workshop and is friendly to old fashioned cars.

I have heard good things about V&A Auto Electrics in Rozelle too - good with old British wires.

I always like to incorporate a fusible link or two when I do wiring jobs. It is advisable even though Minis never originally had them. But it makes them safer. There are ways of doing this discreetly if originality is important.

Thanks Guys for the responses. If only i was in Brisbane Convertable Mini id be on the phone to you :(
New to Minis hence the unknown but i did find the mini World website shows Glossop Auto Electrical at St Marys. Not sure who runs this website but maybe these guys are the guys to speak to when it comes to a specialist Mini electrics person?

Thanks John and Dr - went past and saw Wayne at Glossop and was impressed he knew exactly what wiring was what and where the problem was within about 2 minutes. I know the wiring is simple and most of you guys could pick which was which with your eyes closed but for a newbie to minis finding an auto electrics guy that has obviously worked on minis before is a good thing - unlike my past experience which was a bit of head scratching.

Thanks again
