I have a 77 clubman which has top dash pad cracked on either side I figured while I front windscreen is out i may as well try repair it Where do I start for removal of top dash pad? Also could I just pull old vinyl off and repair cracks with some sort of glue/ filler? Then contact adhesive some new vinyl on. Some places want $400 to repair which seems crazy |

Since you have the screen out, getting the crash pad off is easy - it has 1/4" nuts holding it on. One either end, and one or two in the middle.Once they're undone just lift away. |

Sorry for the hijack. How difficult is it to remove the dash pad without taking the windshield out? I have a non light crashpad(new old stock!!) that I want to put in. The lights will be relocated to the new walnut instrument board. Hooroo |

I've done it before - harder than no screen of course. Just take your time and keep moving it round. If installing one, I'd consider slotting the end holes of the rail toward the passengers by about an 1/8th of an inch first - makes a big difference. |

It is quite a lot of work to repair a cracked foam dash. I spent many hours fixing a dash pad on a capri. I ripped the old stuff off, filled the cracked foam with fibreglass resin and a bit of fibreglass and just a light coat of resin over the surrounding areas, followed by body filler to smooth it all out. Then I did contact adhesive and stuck one piece of vinyl onto it which I got from spotlight for like $14/m. Stretching it around the curved bits was a bitch, cos I had to hold it there for ages or it would unstick and create air pockets. Its been a couple years and doesn't look too bad, although has unstuck around the curves around the air vents, and the fact it is quite hard with all the resin and body filler on it ![]() I'm not sure how professionals do it but going by 35/h just for labour, $400 is just under 12 hours, which is probably much less than what I spent on it. |

Hopefully the mini dash being a fairly simple design will be a bit easier apply the vinyl It's seems like its hard to find replacement top dash pad with the brake warning lights |

Near on impossible hence why I settled on a new one without the lights. I picked it up at the goulburn swap meet a few years back and was still wrapped in a plastic bag with leyland part sticker attached. Cost me $100 and sat in my garage until today when I pulled it out of the box I put it in. The lights are going to the right of the instrument cluster one above the other and mounting them flush with the dash using aftermarket lights. Hooroo |

I didnt find it all that hard. I used selleys kwik grip. I didnt do it all in 1 hit though. Stuck the vinyl down to the top and let that stick a bit then worked to the front, then did under the front and then put all the little clips on to hold it. Looks really smart now. The bottom dash rail was the ning nong! |

Once dash is out do you just pull old vinyl off? Does that thin layer of brown foam underneath vinyl Usually come off too? Is it just steel underneath the top dash pad that gives the shape of the dash ? |

Found a pic of me doing my top dash pad. It is a steel structure with foam on top then vinyl wrapped. I tried to pull off the old vinyl but it was wrecking the foam so just left it on. I covered over the top of it ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Just bumping this thread up - I'm trying to get access to my park brake light so I am trying to pull out my upper dash. (I can't seem to push it through) The plastic for the switch has snapped so I need to figure out what I need to do with it. FYI this is on a clubman I've found the 4 bolts but it doesn't seem to want to come out (window still in). Do I just keep on jiggling? I'm wondering if the dehumidifier vent screws also holding it in, or are those vent screws purely held onto the dash and will come out with it? Also I can't seem to get the IP shroud back sitting nicely. Might replace the dehumidifier hose while I'm at it. |
