Trying to establish a little more history (date of manufacture) to the early (CKD) 850 shell I have just bought. YMA2S1
Car number, mid 12000, Body number high 11000 about 600 between numbers.
(no number visible on floor pan behind drivers seat)
Has single skin A panels
Two round drain holes in rear gutters on each side
A rectangular drain hole in front gutters
Has drip rails
Has magic want hole (also one for a remote change crudly cut into the tunnel)
Starter has a date of 1962, no date visible on the wiper motor, probably has been replaced (is a round body motor, is this correct?)
Haven't checked the glass for a date stamp.
Has the cut away front apron, shoud it be the full apron?

One last question!!
I don't intend to run the 850 motor, however the engine number matches the
Compliance plate. I am not really in a position to keep/store the engine but if it made it any more valuable in the near future I would sort something out.

According to a list of CKD bodies I have it is a mid 62 model.

That is about all I know about 850's.

Here is the list I used:

What an interesting and useful document, I had no idea something like that existed.

I agree with mid 1962 - No. 12178 was delivered June 1962. Although it would have been built earlier than that.

Have a look behind the passenger seat on the floor for the number. That's where it is on the car above. They must have swapped sides over at some point.

Was that list of 850 numbers put out by the NSW Mini Club? I bought something like that at the Oz50 in Goulburn. I'm curious as to where they got the exact numbers 1000, 2000, 4000 from - were those cars around recently?

and having the original matching-number engine does make a car more valuable. At least in my opinion :) I've kept the original from my red 850 in the shed. Once it's gone you're very unlikely to get it back!

I think the front apron at that age should be full.

Has anyone seen the document attached by "Bubbacluby". I would be very interested in finding out what the total document covers if anyone can help

As I filled some in via PM.

I got that document sent to me from a lad when I was interested in a car he was selling. Was to show me the numbers of his car lined up with the date he was saying it was built.

I have no idea what document it came from, who produced it or anything.

So I'm interested as well if anyone knows.

I believe this is the document (apologies for the poor quality):

We purchased it at the Oz50 in Goulburn 2011 from the NSW Mini Car Club Stands. I recall the lady saying it was the last copy, but someone was meant to be doing a reprint.

Mine is listed as Issue II, 12/1999 - so it's old.

It does have some interesting information, including how to identify Coopers and Ss, Police vehicles, Clubman GTs, 1275 LS, as well as lists of chassis numbers and paint/trim colours for some models.

Perhaps a NSW club member could advise as to whether or not a reprint was made?

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but info like this is really useful - could it be made a sticky or placed somewhere for easy access?

I would like to get hold of a copy of the booklet if there is a reprint run.

Pretty sure the mini club of NSW sells them at their meetings. Check their website and call Brian.

I've seen one online somewhere but can't find it again. It's been driving me nuts!
