Post subject: | d/s window regulator |
Hi guys, tonight i was about to leave the house to meet up with the sydney guys at flemington pub when my drivers window just drops down into the door.. i took all the trim out and found that the regulator has come apart from the window.. is there a way to repair the slider that the regulator ball sits in or does it need to be a whole new window? |

If the slider (channel?) is buggered that would be a first time I've ever heard of it -they are usually pretty robust, unless rusted away. If so, you would need to replace the whole window, but I would guess they are a dime a dozen & John at Mini Kingdom would probably have a shirtload of 'em. Are you sure its not the ball end of the regulator arm? From memory there's a nylon rim on it, which may have given up the ghost. Much easier to replace the regulator. Glass removal means dismantling half the door! |

I've had the metal part thats clamped onto the glass come off before - happened when the steel rusted away to half its thickness and the rubber that wedges it onto the glass swelled up and weakened the grip. A new metal clamp can be all thats needed, but you don't usually find them without the glass still being attached. I'd use the whole window - unless the glass is tinted and you want to reuse it. On the other hand, if the wheel or pin holding it onto the regulator arm has gone, thats much easier to replace - just do the whole assembly and make sure when its all put back together there's waterproof grease on the tracks. |
