Talk about totally fed up and on the brink of throwing in the towell. No matter what I do, I cant seem to get my mini runnning 100%. Did a rebuild about a year or so ago and she went like a rocket. It was running rich so I 'leaned off' the fuel......now, I'm increasing it one flat at a time to try to find the sweet spot. I've changed the dash pot oil....ran it with a lot of oil to just a tiny dribble (even no dash pot oil) all with no difference to the performance. Electrics......new plugs, new points , new leads, fixed up a dodgy connection to the dizzy, tried a different coil.......all to no avail. Can you throw any light on what might be wrong please as I'm at my whits end now trying to track this down ![]() Thanks from one very unhappy mini owner ![]() |

Find someone with a portable A/F ratio meter and take it for a drive to check the mixture out under load. The needle may be wrong... Or, do it on a dyno, they all have an A/F ratio meter. Try and find one that speaks `SU'. ![]() |

Damn rodney that sucks and since its been about 20 years since i played around with carby fed engines im probably no help but until you sort out a dyno run ....... Since youve done some of the electrics have you checked your vaccum advance hoses for leaks ? " although if i remember correctly a vaccum leak makes your car run lean ? " or checked your choke adjustment ? . I bought some SU dashpot oil if you would like to try that but since you mention you tried different amounts of oil and none with no difference i then thought it may be the vaccumm advance not kicking in. Anyway good luck rodney and if you want to try bits and pieces from pickles you welcome to try them if it helps sort your problem. Cheers Bill |

Awww...you're a legend Rod. I didn't like to ask though as you only have a week at home with the family and don't exactly need me there with my troublesome mini......are you home tomorrow when I get in from work??? Say, a little after 4 pm. It would be worth it just to return the smile to my face. |

Yep I'll be here mate. I'm home for a while now. Barrow Island mobilisation has been put back another couple of months and the next compressor job isn't until August.... |

Hang in there Rodney, took me about 5 years of farting around before I finally sorted Lillee's jetting, and it wasn't for lack of trying either. But once sorted she'll run like a rocket. |
