Compared to a real one, it just doesn't look quite `right', does it.

different vehicle, that's the "new" moke lookalike, no interchangeable parts or otherwise - made by Chery as a complete car

Very curious how it gets past ADR's...

Have a look at the specs of it:

Engine: 990cc 50kw
Max speed 110 kph
Warranty: 1 year / 15000 kms
Safety: No
ABS / ESP: No
Rear seats belts: No

I'd have thought 50kw would make it move quicker though? Mustn't rev very hard.

Maybe they can sell them in the same way the manx buggies have to be now: not for road use.

Well... that's not so great!

Well since a 30kW 998 mini can do 130 or so, I would expect a 50kW moke to be pretty sprightly!

It says 36KW on their website?

They'd be electronically speed limited, or perhaps the gearing limits the speed.

Either way 110 is probably way too fast in a moke. Or a mini even.

My moke sits nicely at 110km/h unless there is a head on gust of wind...

110km/h would be my minimum requirement for any mini/moke.

Gearing and electronic speed limiter would be my guess on this, just to safeguard the windscreen.

I'm pretty sure there's a discussion on this somewhere and it came down to a loophole in ADR's as long as they're a limited run vehicle (it's like importing less than 200 cars per year or something like that)

or it will be sold as a commercial vehicle, which is how the defender 90 is sold. They would tell you that the reason they stopped selling them over here is because they were getting more expensive than the 110, which may have been true but it also failed several current ADR's. Then started importing it as a commercial vehicle (designed for farm use/off road use etc) and they can bypass it. That's the story of how we have a 2012 defender on the road with no airbags and a less than exciting roll bar.
