Ok I lieu of the fact search isn't working very well Ill put a post up. My car generated a misfire when running about 3 weeks ago. I then changed the plugs and it ran fantastically for about a day before the misfire reappeared. It got worse to the point where it sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders, however it still started. After a 2 week break from looking at it I've changed the leads, put an electronic ignition module in the dizzy and put a new coil on it. All to no avail as now it won't start. Where should I look? I'm getting spark to the plugs albeit faint (probably due to the weakened battery). I was fairly certain it was ignition problems so have checked all the wires are done up tightly etc etc. I've got th battery on charge and will try again tomorrow, but any suggestions on where else to look? |

I had a similar problem the other day where the car wouldn't start. The starter motor turned out to be stuck after some helpful pointers from other members. Simply put the car into gear and roll the car forward to try and unstick the starter. It's worth a try |

Fuel - too much or less likely too little fouling the plugs (check the plug colour) Compression - Low compression not compressing the fuel mix causing it to not burn correctly then fouling the plugs. |

First thing to do is check the fueling. Take one of your plugs out and have a look. If they're back and sooty, you're running ruck, if they're white and powdery, you're running lean. Is this a consistent, rhythmic misfire, or sporadic? Rhythmic usually means rich, sporadic lean. |

How old is your fuel? |

Mine had a condenser that cracked letting water in. Ran perfectly then totally sh@t itself when there was the slightest hint of moisture in the air. |

I'd be retracing your steps as to what you changed , it'll be a process of elimination . You say it was at least running before you put the electronic ign in it , problem in this area maybe ![]() How long since it had been driven , stale fuel could be an issue . |

If you have left the ignition on for a minute or two without it running, the electronic module may now be cooked. I once fried a cheap one this way.. ![]() I would check for spark at a clean plug, & put the points back in if there's none. |

Check if you're getting a weak or strong spark from the plugs. Colour of spark should tell you. Mine was orange...had to wire in a relay for the coil. Blue sparks now ![]() |

The plot thickens. So after trying both the points and electronic ignition for spark they both worked. Orangey spark, is this too weak? So to me ignition is fine. Put some new fuel in it and pumped some through the fuel line before reattaching. Still just turning over, doesn't even sound like it wants to start. Pulled out the plugs and there is definitely fuel in the chambers. So spark and fuel but no bang, beginning to do my head in |

In putting the module in have you changed the ortientation of the dizzy? When I put my new electronic distributor in (not just a module but the whole dizzy, it needed to be in a completely differnt position to set it up for 10 degrees BTDC like the instructions said. In other words are you getting it to trigger the spark at the right time? Not sure if that all make sense. Someone feel free to jump in and elaborate.. |

+1 for the dizzy I had to do the exact same thing with mine after fitting the module, was about 5mm anti clockwise from where the points setting was. Mark your dizzy position and have a feel around. |

How strong is the battery ?. This is a fairly new engine isn't it , may not be spinning it quick enough . |
