Post subject:  What oil and what headlamp bulbs

Hi all,

Could someone point me in the direction of the thread discussing preferred engine oil brands. I read it ages ago but can't find it now.
Also what is the best headlamp bulb to use. Is white light better than the blue being seen these days, never having driven a car with blue headlights.
Thanks.

I'll leave the religious topic of engine oil to the other thread, but when it comes to lights I wouldn't bother with the high colour temperature globes - watt for watt, they give poorer range than a "normal" halogen.

I've got the regular 55/60W (or is it 50/55W, I forget) H4's in mine and they're awesome - with good reflectors (mine are Wipac Quadoptics from MiniSpares UK) they're all you'll need.

On the other hand, I've just put 90/130W H4's in my Hilux, because the reflectors are square and craptastic. I had 90/100W blue globes in it (they came with the car) before these, and they were woeful. The 90/130W's regular colour temperature globes are much, much, much better.

I recently changed from regular noname brand of halogen H4 bulb to Philips Extreme Vision +100 and there is a noticeable difference to my surprise. It's at least 25% brighter if not more.

I was the one most surprised being the most sceptical, but there you have it.

Yep, wattage will only be how much it chews not how much it spews. That being said I have the minisport upgrade which i think is the 55/60w and i'm sure they're not a great bulb but it comes out pretty clear. Just make sure you've got relays too to play it safe on the switch inside.

Also need to do the first oil change this weekend so i'd be interested to at least hear a couple products thrown around as I'm sure the results vary at lot per car. 20W-50 yeah??

You don't perhaps have sealed beam headlights do you? No changing the bulb if you do.

And i would go for the white light over blue if that is a decision to be made

Post subject:  Better light intensity

Most time the simplest the better. I always use std 60/55W H4 globes and prefer to use Tungsram brand. But it is always advisable to wire up relays to make sure the bulbs get the best possible voltage supplied to them. Relays also make all switches last longer as they take over the load. Even wiring up relays on a car that still uses sealed beam headlights the intensity improvement of up to 25% is most times very noticeable as a result.
