Post subject: | Rim Width |
I am currently looking at getting some 10s for my mini but I am not sure if I should get 10x5 or 10x6? I am currently running 1" stepped drums on the back and cooper S 7.5 discs on the front with those crap black plastic flares all around. Would I be running the risk of tyre rub with the wider rims or should it be fine? What would you guys recommend? 10x6 or 10x5?? cheers, CJ |

Most 10x6 are barely legal in NSW with the plastic `Innocenti' flares. They would be illegal in SA. You would need wider flares... But 10x5s still look good and don't stick out past your flares, except the sidewall slightly. |

I guess next question would be which flares could I use if I go 10x6? The wider stance is nice but not nice enough if it will cause more issues.... |

The answer is - it depends on the offset. Because this has personally driven me mental as half the wheel companies don't seem to know the offset, this will hopefully help. I'm going 10x6 on my Clubman Van (discs and spacered drums) and will be (sort of) fitting them under group 2 arches. But I'm going with split rims so can choose my own offset. From my research on the 10x6 compared to my Contessas that currently fit (again sort of) without arches and are around a +27 offset. Remember these measurements apply to the wheel only (tyre not accounted for) on my particular Mini with my particular stock wheel arch (they are very slightly rolled). From biggest 'poke' to smallest: Genuine Minilite Deep Dish 6x10. -15 offset. Protrude 55mm. ![]() Midland Wheels Mamba 6x10. -7 Offset, protrude 47mm. ![]() Midland Wheels JBW 6x10. -7 Offset, protrude 47mm. ![]() Ultralite 6x10. -3 Offset, protrude 43mm. ![]() Revolite 6x10. +5 Offset, protrude 35mm. ![]() Cosmic 6x10. +6 offset, protrude 34mm. ![]() Starmag 6x10. +7 Offset, protrude 33mm. ![]() Genuine Minilite 6x10 (normal offset). +7 offset, protrude 33mm. ![]() Group 2 arches, depending on who you listen to and where you buy them (and measure them) from, vary from 1.75 inches (44.5mm) to 2.5 inches ((63.6mm). So the answer as to whether a 10x6 will fit under a group 2 arch or not is more complicated than it may first seem. Add to this the fact that your tyre choice also makes a difference and you can be pretty confused by it all! I will measure the tyre width of an AO32Rs on my 10x5s versus 10x6 when they arrive. Hope that helps. Though it probably just adds to the confusion. |

Just be aware you'd almost certainly need group 2 wides for them. Wheel/Tyre combo will probably be almost 60mm outside the line of the bodywork! |

I was under the impression that if I put stepped drums on the rear of my Mini Deluxe I would be able to put 10x5 genuine minilites on (the ones stated for cooper s offset) without any flares at all? Haven't done it yet but planning to and I don't wont any arches but I am new to this mini game. Stop me if I am incorrect ![]() |

Cooper S has arches, don't they? Minilite are the worst at not listing offset, but my understanding is they'll fit under standard Cooper S arches. Probably not in line with the body though. |

I have normal offset contessas with stepped drums and no flares, and I would say not the most legal thing but have been through RBTs with HWP and they didnt say anything. |

Just realised the offset of the 'legal' contessa is +37, not +27! So all my measurements are out by 10mm. Doh! If you guys want I can probably do a list of all the 10 inch options on the new market for not much more effort. |

Cheers for the advice. I guess im looking at 10x4.5 then with cooper s offset. Ive got the stepped drums to go on the rear and want to go to disks later on? |
