So many interesting things to note on this that are quirky. For starters the front... it's like a riley elf meet mini grille? like half way between? Then chrome strip to cover the seams along the sides and roof. Also the back window looks huge, like a custom job as opposed to whats on the elfs (they're just a mini screen from the looks). Now for someone to tell me i'm wrong ![]() |

Wasn't this owned by Enzo Ferrari or the owner of Fiat or someone like that? I remember that the reason it's right hand drive is so when they stopped they got out onto the pavement and not into the road. |

Te article tells all. It's the only surviving (or manufactured) elf/mini beach car, created for a bunch of resorts in the 60's. There are a few mini/mini beach cars but only one of these, pulled from a scrap heap by a guy in Athens. They wanted him to cut it in two before he could take it home :p There are pr photos floating around of Alec Issigonis driving this thing around. Nice car, would love to have one in the warmer months. Story goes it was made from one of the surviving elf prototypes, hence mini front elf rear. |

John Reymondos, the guy who saved the car above has set up a website for the beach cars, which is worth a read. http://austinbeachcar.wix.com/register# There were also beach cars built by innocenti, known as Mini Mares, but none of them are as uniques as John's. http://maximummini.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Innocenti%20Mini%20Mare I love them, but I'll have to make do with a Moke. Back in the 70s when I still lived in Malta, I bought a very rare Fiat 500 Jolly which was based on the Fiat 500 Gardiniera built and modified by Bertone. It was very much the same style as this Mini but My Fiat was a completely open Car. It also had wicker seats. From what I learnt since then, there were only about 18 of these produced. When I came to Australia in 1980 I left this 500 Jolly and my 1936 Topolino in the care of my Father in Law in Malta till I decide if I want to ship them to Australia or not. In 1982 when we were settled here in our new country I asked him to ship my Topolino to me and told him to sell the Jolly as I had found out that here in Queensland one was not permitted to register a Left hand drive car and that is what the Jolly was and I did not want to alter it in any way. The 18 made were all left hand drive. Lately one of these Fiat 500 Jolly was sold in the US for more than US $100K. I sold my one in 1982 in Malta for about the equivalent the of AU 1600. Which paid for shipping my Topolino. "Things we do." When I started playing with Minis I always had the dream of converting a Mini into this style car. In 2004 I came across my "MINNIE" which strange enough had already been modified into what looked very similar to a Beach Mini and my old Jolly by a Michael Blackman back in around 1994 ish. I still have this car today. It is such a fun car to drive and gets a hell of a lot of attention. Shame I don't know how to put up Photos on this forum. |

The car was Gold when I bought it off the Yacht owner. I used to get lifted onto a Big Yacht and taken all over the Mediterranean sea as their shopping trolley. As it spent most of it's life on a Yacht it was quite rusty when I got it. but it only has 28,000 Km on the Clock. I had the rust cut out and had it re painted in a Porsche colour "Ancona Blue". The spare wheel used to be under the bonnet and I fitted it to the back to make it look Jeep ish!.... The Bumper bars that I fitted to it were off a Fiat 126. I remember they fitted straight on. I bet that car can tell some stories!! It was very sad for me to let go of it. It was the ideal car for Malta. |
