Post subject:  Custom dash fitting

How has everyone that has fitted a custom dash secured it in place? I am thinking of making one from 9mm ply but have no idea how keep it in place. I have no top or bottom pad just the bare metal rails.

Cheers James

They usually have a metal plate/bracket that hooks behind the inside top and bottom of the dash and holds to the dash by a screw thru the front .
Does that make sense???

I made sheet metal brackets that were mounted to the (inside of) firewall. These had studs mounted on them that poked through the dash when it was lifted up into place, secured with flash stainless domed nuts like this:

^^^ This, or go to your local fastener store and look for something neat. I'd be thinking along the lines of (a) stainless countersunk allen head bolts or (b) hidden fasteners that you can access through the glovebox and instrument panel holes.

I'd spend some time thinking about making it as tidy as can be as it's the most visible thing when you're in the car. Anything that looks rumpety will annoy the heck out of you over time (or I just have OCD...)
