Guys Do you have a tool or support system for the front subframe and engine when lifting the body off? Something so you can move the engine/subframe around? Show me what you have.... Please![/b] |

I have done it, but no tool... bloody hard to move it around, and for refitting... Massive job. Easier and quicker to remove the engine then lift the subframe |

Do you think something like this would work? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=271210133071 |

I don't use anything special. Once the motor is complete, lower it onto your trolley jack with a good solid flat piece of timber, to protect your gearbox. Obviously, you need to set your subby up over the jack. Leave the motor suspended on the engine crane whilst you attach the engine mounts. Move the crane and then you can wheel it over to the shell and into position. It only takes another set of hands to help balance it whilst you jack it up into position. Variables are, what is the shell sitting on, stands? If so you need enough height to maneuvre the assembly under, therefore you may need to lift the shell further then lower it back on to the stands. Not a job you try by yourself and I leave the hubs and axles off. Might not be how it's normally done but it works for me. ![]() |

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=271210133071 I think it would, but you would still need to rig up something to hold the subframe at the right angle. A good place to start would be to use the BMC recommended jacking block on the front, and rig something on the back. Put all that together under the subframe before lifting the body off to balance it. Once the body is lifted, the hydraulic jack will lift it up and allow you to wheel it around on the castors. Good idea I reckon. One caveat - always look carefully at the Safe Working Load of these things. In that ad it is declared at 680kg, which seems fine for a motor and subframe BUT given the price, you can guarantee that it is made in China. What standard was the test of the product and who did that test, and how the quality control is then maintained during production are all unknowns in that case. Ask the seller to answer those questions, if they do not quote an AS/NZ standard and an Australian NATA certified tester, then take it with a boulder of salt. At least halve the SWL declared for your own peace of mind. In this case it would still be fine with the motor/subframe combo, but I would definitely NOT put a whole car at 680kg on it. cheers michael |

Just found this when looking through a Service Bulletin I found on the web somewhere.... (sorry quality out of my control). (not useful for fitting/removing from body - but for general moving around...) ![]() |

I scanned the originals so the quality is a bit better than that web version. ![]() ![]() |

We use one of those m/bike lifts to raise one side of a 1000kg Honda Integra Race Car when changing wheels... works well. |
