my mini had stock single piston brakes and is getting them replaced with twin piston drums as we speak, this is my 1st drivable mini and it was all great untill i went for my 1st spin and came into a corner 2 fast  i didnt wanna nearly kill myself again so i decided to throw on these new ones. would they make any difference??? i'm scared i'll never b able to push my mini cuz of crap brakes!!!!

umm stop your whingeing its mostly a psychological fear, if you want to stop well you will eventually, and in the best part you'll end up not dead 
so i mean what percentage of 'not being dead drives' do you want? 
brakes are fun

Disk will be the best way to go...But Drums Twins can be very good if in perfest condition... Don't forget its your Tyres that touch the ground..Specialy int he wet...I bet your on Falkin's

For an inexperienced driver who cant evaluate corners properly, drums or disks wont make much difference - invest in an air bag. In a cornering situation, grip and throttle control over the understeer etc are atleast as important as your brakes. If you try to get yourself from a tight corner with your brakes, your likely to lock the wheels, and go on the outside and get yourself or somebody else killed. |

the tyres i run are old and are some brand i've never heard of. I'm no novice driver, but my point is you cant barge into a hairpin corne after a 110kmh striaght with out braking 1st, and THEN u plant it on the apex of the corner, i am educated in the fundamentals of driving at speed and know it is obvious that if you brake mid-corner in almost any car your signing your life away!!! But will the damn thing stop or what?!?!?! cornering ability is without competiton but i'm too scared to accelerate up to the next corner cuzi cant wipe off any speed!!! what tyres would be recomended out of curiosity? price's would be good too. cheers |

Utter crap! Braking in a corner is something that you should learn. It is very important to be able to slow a car down when you have entered a corner too quick. It will save your life. If you can't brake in mid corner you are signing your life away! You should do an advanced driving course. |

trail braking cant be done in all driving situations, come to tassie and i'll let u drive my rx7 round baskerville, if you can trail brake the last corner without spining out and clocking a decent time/corner exit speed, i'll give it to you. you just cant trail-brake in all situations is the point im making, it can potentialy un-settle a car making it either under or over-steer if you dont know the corner your approaching. but my original question has still not been answered: will the car stop adequately with the twins? |

I never said anything about "trail braking"
I have raced at Baskerville
Back to mini brakes..... No mini has single piston brakes. They have a single wheel cylinder with 2 pistons and have single leading shoe and a trailing shoe. They work the same fowards and backwards. The other type have 2 wheel cylinders with one piston per cylinder and 2 leading shoes. They work better fowards than backwards! They work well but are easy to lock up because of the leading shoes. They have a problem that when you are going in reverse they act as trailing shoes and you have to press the pedal a lot harder to stop! Leading shoes are forced harder against the drum by the rotation of the drum so two leading shoes give better braking with less pedal effort. |

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that if stop while going up a very steep hill they may not hold! |
