I'm after details on the article on the Caltex Mini Monte Rally found in the June 68 edition of Aust Racing Car News. Does anyone have that mag? I am wondering if it has results .. especially if it mentions Clyde Hodgins. |

I think the Mini Monte was run by the NSW Mini Club (or whatever it was called at the time) so Julie (Kyoda on here) may be able to find something in the club's archives. I can tell you Clyde Hodgins came fourth in the 1967 Mini Monte driving a Mini De Luxe (Car #53) with Brian Hope navigating. You know he was a journalist with the Sydney Sun back then? Some Google searching through the newspaper archives will no doubt find some hits. |

the Racing Car News Magazine that was on ebay was a Max Stahl publication I have not spoken To Max for Many Years, But It may be possible to contact Him or one of his family, About a copy of that edition, I did have a complete collection of RCN Magazines, as I was a frequent advertiser in his Magazine, But two divorces and Many Years later, I have no idea where they are now |

9YaTaH - thanks MiniBill - I didnt see that. I have just msg'd the seller. Thx winabbey - I have spoken to Kyoda and she needed more info than just Clydes name. I am hoping that the RCN mag will have that info. Where did you get the 1967 info from? I found 3 useful articles from Clyde but he doesn't mention much about himself - especially racing the minimatic in 68. John - I will see if this seller gets back to me (or 9yaTaH). If I have no luck there I might call upon you. Flute - I saw that stuff earlier but I couldn't find what I was after in all of that. Good stuff though. I would be interested in talking to Don Wait (if he is still about) but I don't have contact details. |

If you do a Google on "Clyde Hodgins" (with the quote marks) there a quite a few hits. He drove a Morris 1100S in the 1967 Bathurst and Valiant in the 1968 race. I stopped after a few pages so don't know if the Mini Automatic is mentioned anywhere. The 1967 Mini Monte result was in an issue of BMC Rosette. No other info from that source, unfortunately. |

winabbey - that article is what got me started on trying to find out more on the MiniMatic that was driven in that race. I have learnt that Clyde passed away in 1971 (from memory). His co-driver and mate (Don Wait) was interviewed in 2009 at the age of 90 - but I am not sure if he is still with us. Clyde wrote a number of articles on the Mini.Matic but not about his rally car. I'd like to get information about the Matic driven in the race as I might be interested in creating a replica. I'm also interested in the history of the Mini.Matic and have started putting together a website dedicated to the mini.matic (www.minimatic.com.au). A lot of my content isn't up there yet and I am planning on starting a register too. (I am watching the thread about the Cooper S register). I thought that a lot of people would be interested in hearing that a Matic was raced in an Australian Rally back in the day... even if it was just one race. =) |

I thought I'd found something new. 68auto wrote: I'm also interested in the history of the Mini.Matic and have started putting together a website dedicated to the mini.matic (www.minimatic.com.au). You've made a great start, well done. If there's anything I can help you with please let me know. I have various factory publications and sales brochures, although most of these exist elsewhere. The Mini Monte results may appear in other period Australian automotive publications, such as Wheels, Sports Car World, Auto Action and Modern Motor. There's a reprint of the Minimatic road test from the December 1965 issue of Modern Motor in the Spotlight on Mini Minor Downunder book. |

68auto - PM me your email address so we can chat about what else you don't have for your website that I can help you with. For example, I have a copy of the BMC Press Release for the Minimatic. |
