Folks, I realise I may be drawing a long bow here, but has anyone here managed to change the highlighted bush with the motor in-car? I've currently got the remote housing out & am doing the gear stick bushes & replacing the brass anti rattle lug on the exchange. I can get my arm to it & can undo the bolt going through the top of the linkage.. ![]() |

Those bronze bushes are a bloody tight fit, and are hard to remove because the hole up through the middle of the housing isn't much bigger then the bore of the bush. With the housing out, I screw a 9/16" UNF tap into it then use a 1/2" drift to drive the tap + bush out. But I doubt you could do this in the car. Then, how to fit the new one, they are normally drive in fit... You could put a 1/2" bolt or stud up through it, fit a nut & washer then tighten to pull the bush in. Good luck. ![]() BTW if you buy a 1/2" ID x 3/4" OD x 2" long bronze bush from a bearing shop and cut it in half to make 2 bushes, these are a better fit on the shaft than the regular Mini ones. And 1/2 the price, too. |

Ended up dropping an old bolt through the top of it & used a long steel rod & lump hammer, was able to drift the new one in. Bit tricky, but did the job ![]() |
