does anyone have a remedy for cleaning fuel tanks out ?

or is the only way to get a POR15 Fuel Tank Repair Kit ?

as mine is like varnish - See below

I used a handful of bi-carb soda shook it all around inside the tank then threw in a cup or two white vinegar, fizzed up great and a lot of crap came out. Repeated the process a few times. All good.

And what is everyone's thoughts on an overnight stand with diesel in the tank to see if thre are any seam leaks?

+1 for the bicarb and vinegar. Needs a bit of agitation with a long handled brush and a lot of shaking but you get most of the gum out. Just use the Coles smart buy vinegar or the cleaning vinegar. The POR reline stuff is good but follow the instructions to a tee otherwise you will be cleaning your fuel system weekly for years!
