I got some recently from stickyfingersdecals.net, and they are quite good, however I did have to tell the guy (Martin) that they were for an early type bonnet (I think he mostly supplies for the later UK (Mk3?) bonnet). The problem I ran into was that I set mine in from the edge of the bonnet, where the profile is different, so I ended up with a wider gap at the apex of the bonnet.

Any of these vinyl products work out a heck of a lot cheaper and simpler than ye olde painting stripes on!

Hope this helps.

When I fitted mine I was devastated to see they were too short, until I turned the around 180 degrees and they fitted fine...

The Rover Mini is fitted with the chrome grille surround, on the bonnet so the UK strips are made to go to the top of the surround, if the surround is not fitted the stripes will short

Is there a standard location for the bonnet stripes? ie a certain distance in from the edge of the bonnet etc or was it more of a random placement? I am looking for some ideas on what was standard fit when they first came out as I will be painting them on rather than using the stickers.

I'm pretty sure it is 10mm from the edge of the bonnet

The only minis that had them applied by the factory was the Mini Cooper RSP in 1990, Mini Cooper Sports LE in 1998. Both UK production obviously and had the chrome edging on the lower lip of the bonnet.

So if you want to be factory correct, then you've gotta fit the ones that are too short

Otherwise, do it whatever way you feel like because they weren't a standard thing, only ever done by boy racers wanting to copy the Cooper Car Company race cars, like this of John Rhodes' car in 1965

but you'll notice that everyone has done it wrong, because those stripes go all the way back to the windscreen, as seen clearer in this photo of this car which is a replica commissioned by John Rhodes to be 100% correct

So no one in the 70's put bonnet stripes on a cooper s until Rover started making them in the 90's? I would never have picked that? I had always thought of them as being almost a standard part of a cooper s.

the factory didn't put bonnet stripes on them until the 90's - plenty of boy racers did on their own

it's like the people who say that it's not a cooper s unless it has a contrasting colour roof.... just wrong

Everybody wants to look like Jack.

If it wasn't for Jack winning two championships for Cooper would the Mini Cooper have ever been built?

This is correct.

Put them on however you like, I've seen it right to edge of the bonnet, I've also seen them like I have them on Lillee. Either way it looks good with the same colour roof. I only added the stripes because the roof and wheels were already white and it looked strange not to have the stripes. Haven't looked back since...
