Post subject:  thrust bearing removal

Is there a sound way to remove a good thrust bearing from a worn plunger shaft?
The bearing is one of the originals, and the shaft is worn where the ball fits in.

You would need to support the inner race as you press the plunger through. That would mean a lot of trouble as you would need to cut away the oversize outer end of the plunger and machine a hollow dolly to allow the plunger to be pressed through. Still not a guarantee however.

If all else fails you could probably press it off, don't use a BFH and punch for this, the impacts will bugger the balls/rollers and track.

I tried pressing one off once, f*cked it royally.... no way to get to the inner race on the outer side of it

I'll have some of the good bearings to pass on this week though!
