Post subject:  Supercharged 1275 and insurance?

I started looking at my minis again last weekend after 5 years in storage and thinking what to do with the car I started to restore.

I have brought most of the bits I need to supercharge the 1275 but before going any further was thinking will supercharging the mini make the insurance very expensive?

The car will be on club plates, it was a 1969 deluxe, I'm 28 years old, and have a good driving record.

Any thoughts from people with similar cars input would be great.

Lindsay,

you might want to add a location to your profile as insurance will vary a lot depending on where you are.

every insurance company is different so hard to tell, being over 25 helps tho and would make it a hell of a lot cheaper than being under, i think giving your company a ring is the best method as they might not want to cover it at all or charge a ridiculous premium which may require to shop around.

What's the point in insuring it then? in an accident the insurance co will use the blower as an excuse not to pay out  .

My insurance (Shannons) says all mods to my 1970 Mini are covered, if RTA/RMS legal..
I did list them when I transferred from Vigil years ago, but wonder if you need to.

once it says any modifications, it's fine as long as the car is legally registered

best off asking your insurance company!

Spoke to Lumley insurance today and they were very helpful. Insurance is cheap even with the supercharger so now I just have to Hurry up and build the car.
