Post subject:  car konking out whilst driving?

have a bit of a problem with my mini that when im driving along it seems to starve itself of petrol and stall, then i cant start it again till i get a jump start. then she goes fine and then same problem a few minutes later. :?
I have a new electric fuel pump, hoses, battery leads, plugs points etc etc. i noticed when it happend tonight it drained the power in my lights and indicators would'nt work.
I charged my battery up friday and it has been ok till tonight?
i think my battery might be crap, does anyone know of or had this problem before? or could it be to do with something else?
thanks :?: :?:

Sounds like theres no volts (actually current) going into the battery or not enough. Youlle need a volt meter across the battery. (must be more than 12.6V when your above idle. Do you have a generator. or altinator.

Always when you have a failure suspect the thing most recenly changed. Is the altinator an internal reg one?

Fooked alternator definitely.

Or voltage regulator maybe.

The alternator might be putting power out, but is the battery taking it?
How old is the battery? Is the wiring under the car in sound condition?
Are relays and power regulators all good?
Check all that stuff.

To check get someone to give the car a bit of a rev (just a bit) and go round the back & diskonect the battery If the atl is ok the car wont die. If the car dies then the atl is not good.

I have had a similar problem, when i change down to second, the car sometimes loses power, but then it kicks back in, i think it may actually stop? and then cos its still in gear its like a rolling start???? anyone know about that? there are no other side effects, no flat battery or anything

There is a auto sparkey not far from you on the corner of Princes HWY & Gradners RD. been there forever. I have never used them but I remember they have been there for about thirty years so I asume the are not bad. No bloody parking nearby though. But the do have driway space.

The battery is about 3 years old now with very little use (been laye dup for 2.5 years)
Will try taking leads off whilst the car is going, hopefully it might be the battery.
will have to charge it again first. thanks for the advice. it sucks when you have to push your car off a main intersection at night, was just waiting to get cleaned up by inpatient drivers who try to get around you rather than help.
