Hey guys, does anyone here know where I could get Water Wetter coolant additive. I wanna give it a try, since its rather tropical up here and my poor clubby just likes running right on the ragged edge of overheating. Since I'm on the highway all the way to work, its high revving. Just wanted to try it before I had to look at water pumps or radiators etc. |

do you have a link for an example of the product? As far as coolants go I know a little bit... Pure water has the best cooling capacity that is affordable. I don't know of any products that can do better although no doubt they would be availible at some high $ per Litre rate. The glycol based anti-freeze/anti-boil & corrosion inhibitor actually lowers the coolants ability to transfer heat. Have you flushed the system out recently? dewey |

I can't get my worked 1310 to go above N on hot days, and all I have is a stock radiator and a MiniMatic heater under the bonnet connected as above (it was stock fitting on the car). ![]() |

My worked 1330cc runs fine up here in Cairns ay, has a 3 core radiator and high volume water pump though. Never goes over bout 93 deg C, even in stop start traffic. |

Phil a couple of questions on your heating Do you have a plastic fan. If yo is it the corect way round, the indented section should be towards the engine. So it sucks air through the radiator. Flush the radiator. Once that is done put all back together maybe with a new therostat and gasget and cap. Fill it all back up and fun it till the thermostat opens. Everyone forgets to pump the top rad hose. This gets rid of air pockets in the Head which can course execive engine heat. Give it a go ![]() gafmo in the Hills |

Contrary to popular belief by some, all Mini fans (except late UK cars with front rad) blow thru the rad into the wheelarch. This includes the plastic fan. Turning it around won't change the flow direction, it will just reduce the flow- the helix angle is still the same but the shape becomes inefficient. Personally I still like the 16 blade metal one- it's quieter and doesn't chuck blades off when it ages.. ![]() |

gafmo I'll bet you a slab of beer that air flows from engine thru rad into wheelarch. Start yer motor and check.. ![]() <edit> wheelarch is a low pressure area at speed, engine bay is high pressure from front. ![]() |

My fan transmits the air from the engine bay through the radiator, and dumps into the wheel arch. Yeah, I flushed the engine bigtime when I first bought the car. Pulled the heater out, sorted the mixer valve, and flushed the heater core right out. I understand that antifreeze increases the surface tension of the water, meaning less contact and heat transfer through the radiator. Water Wetter reduces the surface tension allowing better heat transfer. Here's the stuff: ![]() EDIT.......... The stuff is proven as Corrosion Resistant, unlike a lot of coolants. EDIT2...... My car runs about 95 Degree's most of the time. over 100 k/hr it starts to overheat, but I believe thats caused by lean-out from the small carby. The only time it has seriously spat water was after I got run off the road, and chased a guy down at 150. |

I thought it was obvious that air is blown through the rad into the wheel arch!!!!!! drmini your absoloutley right. Wheel arch is low pressure, front of car high pressure. Spot on. Thought that was common knowlege?? Im running the 6 blade metal fan, this seems to do a good job, can be a little noisy but so is the exhaust/stereo/engine. |
