Just wondering if anyone on here runs a 123 distributor with the selectable advance curves ?

What's spec engines are you guys running them in. I've got a 1380 high compression motor with bathtubbed head. Re13 camshaft, 1.5 ratio rockers, 1 3/4 inch hif carb, graham Russell inlet manifold. Lcb extractors.

I've got it on setting zero. But not sure if that's the right one? If I go up to 1 does that increase the advance curve?

My motor is roughly the same spec as yours but has a bigger cam. With the bathtubbed head I found it needs 38° total advance (all in by 3500), and static advance of 18-20°. That's in a Hitachi D4R85 (Pulsar) dizzy with the advance plate shortened to 9-10°.
Not sure how these numbers align with those in a 123 dizzy, but if you peruse their published advance curves it should give you an idea..

[edit] here's a link to more 123 dizzy info- http://www.minimania.com/article/1791/1 ... structions

My Engine is a Full race engine ,

its 1330cc GR head,1.5 Titan Roller Rockers , APT VP5SP Camshaft ,45dcoe weber , Swiftune Stage 2 LCB Extractors, and i have the 123 dizzy on setting number 4 but i then check that the maximum advance is 28 degrees this seems to work well for me , its still very drive-able for a Cam of 306 degrees duration and big lift it can take full throttle from 2500 RPM and pulls to 8500 in 4th gear every lap ... But i do need to try a new dizzy as 123 only recommend theirs to 7000rpm

Cheers
Beanie

7,000rpm? Clearly I didn't read that part of the instructions too carefully! I've also gone to 8,500rpm. Seems to behave ok.

I can't make sense of that table with the curves divided into 4 groups.

There's some info at these links. Some repeated from above but maybe easier to read.

http://www.tdcperformance.ca/tuning_guide.htm

http://www.tdcperformance.ca/pdfs/123MINI.pdf

http://www.minifinity.com/forum/viewtop ... 2&start=40

I run one and am using curve 6 but am only running my engine in at the moment so can't comment much yet. 1360, 10.25:1, RE13 cam, HIF44, modified head, 1.5 rockers, Maniflow LCB, RC40 exhaust. Curve 6 worked well on my previous 1310 though.

Not sure how these numbers align with those in a 123 dizzy, but if you peruse their published advance curves it should give you an idea..

So in saying that i would want to ignore the quote of
Quote:
You will see that there is a curve family for every engine right from a bone stock 850 at 7.5:1 (34 degrees) to a screaming 1380 with 14:1 CR (28 degrees).

Because of the bathtubbed head right?

So i would be looking at playing around with this family/table http://www.tdcperformance.ca/pdfs/123Mini-34.pdf
Than the recommended family/table for 1380 race motors http://www.tdcperformance.ca/pdfs/123Mini-28.pdf

I hope im on the right track.

I think you might need to pick a curve that suits a race 1380 (28°)then manually advance it by 10° to get ~38° total advance. ie use a dialback timing light.
