I'm trying to replace my front cones and I think the trumpet has been seized onto the cone. Since it's stuck, I can't get either part out. I've tried sticking a screw driver between them and prying it out but because it's still inside the car, it's not really easy to get at it. Is my only option to try to pry it? I was considering taking the top arm out but I have no idea how it would come out even if I took off the bolts that are on either end. |

Hi mate, I have just taken one of my front cones out and it was a very challenging job, I thought I could do it without removing top arm but cone would not come out with it in place. Top arm is easy to remove, just remove both nuts on either end of threaded bolt and then remove two bolts from securing plate on front side of suspension turret, this will now allow bolt to pull out of arm towards front of car. If your still stuck at getting it out " ive done mine recently " as mentioned take out the top arm and if its still stuck and you havent got a cone compressor just use an angle grinder. Here's a picture of mine when it came out viewtopic.php?f=3&t=78860&start=120 Cheers Bill |

I tried cutting the ball and socket off the trumpet to try to get it out but I can't rotate out the rubber with the trumpet still in. I've got a brake booster in the way of getting out the top suspension arm on one side and the other side has the radiator in the way. Angle grinding it doesn't sound like the worst thing to do considering I have no real qualms getting hi-los, but I can't see how I can cut it the way you did without pulling the top suspension arm out without cutting into the wheel well. I'll have a good look at it but chances are I might not be able to do it. I haven't tried a chisel and WD40. I've tried a screwdriver but didn't really try to smash the hell out of it. |

I've cut the ball and cup off the trumpet and brought it lower so it moves around. I have figured out that both parts won't come out of that area even if I pulled the top arm off because the horn is too fat to come out in the same orientation it's installed (vertically). I've figured now I have a few options with my trusty dremel - Try to shave some rubber off so I can pull it off in one go - Get a cutting edge and try to slowly cut the trumpet much shorter so I can turn it within itself - Try to cut along the trumpet (length ways) like Bill did and hope it comes out I don't think I can get an angle grinder in there. It's all a bit tight. I'll take a photo tomorrow. I tried a chisel and a hammer with some WD40 and it didn't seem to do much, but I didn't really have a big go at it. But I don't see how it would work as I am only able to compress the rubber rather than the steel bit at the end. |

Mine were really painful to remove too. Ended up drilling through the top of the trumpet where it joins the rubber cone then smashed a socket extension bar into the hole and they came apart. Didn't need to remove the top arm. |

Started drilling into the top of the trumpet. Got about 3 holes then my drill ran out of power. How many holes did you punch in to get it loose? |

I think it was 3 close together then I just hit it with the socket extension bar and it collapsed |
