Ok my brother and i fitted my new ball joints today " follow the instructions from this forum " Torque em up to 72 Ft-lbs while adding/Removing shims till they are firm but moveable when torqued up. We did that then Greased them and now they are really hard to move ? is that normal. Cheers Bill |

Yes the grease gives them a bit of a hydraulic lock when they are adjusted properly as you said. They'll be OK. Original ball pins had a slight flat on the side of the ball to let the grease get past the ball easier. El cheapo aftermarket ones don't. |

Is it worth lapping them in with grinding paste as mentioned on some sites but denounced on others? |

If they are jerky yes worth doing, but it won't stop the grease locking it up. Put a tiny flat on the ball, whilst it's apart.. |

Awesome thanks doc , now just need to order some new grease nipples as we broke 2 with the bloody pain in the butt kinchrome grease gun " once you put it on a grease nipple its ridicously hard to get off " .... they should have an adjustable tip on them or something . I have seen cheap guns that are not adjustable. You do get what you pay for when buying a grease gun. I use & like this Macnaught K-29 http://www.gotstock.com.au/trigger-type ... pAodAGQABw |

Unless the head gets worn you shouldn't have to adjust them. My Macnaught one is nipped up and it's been fine like that for 12 years or more. (so long ago I paid $49 for it).

Thats interesting Doc as mine is brand new it just gets caught on those little grease nipples for the balljoints and we had to lever it off " a bloody pain in the butt " ive emailed kincrome for some info on it; Cheers Bill |

It makes a lot of sense, the sump plug has a range of 40 - 50 lb./ft. just in case it needs fine adjustment.
