My sliding window seals were installed by a previous owner and I'm not sure the uppers are the correct ones. The lowers look good but in contrast, the uppers are flimsy, soft rubber things that can be easily removed and the glass can move out of its groove sideways. Is this correct or can someone point me toward the correct item? Thanks |

Unfortunately the proper seals are NLA - or at least VERY difficult to find... The modern replacements are non reinforced rubber strip. They're a "M" shaped strip and the centre ridge is split. This allows the "M" to separate and become more of a "n" shape and the single narrow groove that each glass slides in becomes a wide joined channel that allows the glass to flop around. I would not describe them as soft but they do become distorted. I have not been able to find any of the old (original) style steel reinforced channel so when I do my next replacement I'm going to glue the centre split together. They should work better if the original shape can be retained.... Good luck. Cheers, Ian |

Thanks Ian. The replacement runners are garbage which is a shame as I love the slides. And because I don't use the draft excluders, my windows are banging together on the road. There has to be a better way? Were the originals made of the same material as the lowers? Surely the factory that makes the lowers could make some longer for the uppers? |

Yes, the tops are similar to the bottoms...except, they'e not long enough. And I'm not sure that the bottom material has the flexible sections that allow the top to make its two bends... although I'm thinking this may be something you could do with a hacksaw/Dremel cutter... Cheers, Ian |

I wonder if they buy the soft one on a roll? They could always cut it to size. I'll give them a call. |

Surprisingly, that should fit. You need to push the bit in the middle up so that the two webs under it touch together. Then the centre part will be at a similar height to the two side sections and it will form two channels for the two glass panels. When fitted properly, none of this should stick out of the window frame and should be nice and flush. The first time I fitted this style they didn't fit properly until I realised what I had done wrong. | __ | |__||__| Fold it something like the above. Best I could do with text. Phil |

Phil Thanks, Phil but I'm not convinced this rubber is actually made for the job. To me, it looks like it belongs in a slimmer frame. There's nothing to stop it flattening out and returning to this shape when the glass moved forward. Even pushed in, it's a very loose fit and easily falls out. Maybe you have a different rubber? |
