How much can you machine the brake drums before you need to change the size of the brake shoes? Does anyone know. |

Its been a long time, but 60 thou over diameter springs to mind. Luckily they're pretty inexpensive to replace new. |

Standard drum oversizes used by brake shops in Australia are 7" +1/32" (.03125") and +1/16" (.0625"). They machine them to these sizes and supply rebonded brake shoes, radius ground to suit. You can't successfully use standard 7" size shoes in a +1/32" sized drum, by the time they bed in properly you will be out of adjustment. However these days you can buy NEW shoes and NEW Italian made drums for the same $, or less. I just did this with the rears on my car. |

I replaced my rear drums and shoes...is it normal for the shoes to drag on the drum with the adjuster all the way out? I assume it will wear in eventually, but at the moment it's dragging a bit! |

Nope it's NOT normal. Do you have the shoes on the right way round? Is the handbrake cable sticking? |

Is this the correct way for the shoes? I tried at least, to follow the manual. Both sides are dragging. The shoes and spacer drums are both from minispares UK. I can't see what else I could of done wrong. Sorry for the hijack thread. I appreciate the help! Cheers.

That adjuster looks line it is screwed all the way IN??? Could be my eyesight ,but my glasses are on..  I cannot see the inner ends of the 2 wedges, they should be in near the little flat on the screw when adjusted loose. Shoes are round the right way, other side is mirror image. |

This is actually an old pic, they are now screwed all the way out and still dragging. Is there anything else I could of messed up?!?! |

Some drums sold recently were poorly made- either out of round or loose on the hub so they ran in orbit instead of true. Are they touching in 1 spot or are tight all the way round? |

Both drag the whole way round, as if the adjuster is too far out...except it's all the way in. |

I would toss the shoes and go buy a new set from Karcraft, they are cheap. 20 something bux. ps. those facings look very thick to me... |

Do you mean just touching to make a dragging noise, or really quite difficult to turn? Are the point bits on the wedges toward the camera or away? |

Hi Mick, The wedges are facing the camera so when the adjuster is out they are pretty much touching. They are doing more than just making noise, I can still move the drum by hand though, I can just feel the resistance slightly. Maybe its just shoddy manufacturing tolerances?? |
