Hi all,

I was contermplating changing from my cooper s air filter box (TWIN 1.25" SUs)
Back to the twin RamFlo s I used to have on there. 8) Love that sound!

The question I have is: Are they as good at FILTERING as the paper elements?
I have a freshly rebuilt 1275 so don't want it to be ruined through poor filtration.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Matt

I asked similar questions a while back.

You have to 'oil' the RAMFLO filter elements, otherwise they go hard and disintegrate. :?

To be honest, I am not a fan, but we all have different opinions....

They work fine. Use the oil if you are using the normal Lynx foam filter material.

Beware if you are running them on an SU or 2 then it could lean out the SUs alittle (more air coming in, same jet size)...

both the cooper S's I have/had had them on, and I ditched them really quick cos they didn't filter anything - the amount of dust and crap inside the backing plates was immense - they weren't oiled though....

I bought some really nice pancake filters from Midel for my blue S with twin 1 1/2"s, and went back to the original one with my camino gold S

Yeah you really have to oil them... I rinsed them out just this weekend and believe me... they work!

If you are using SU's then I'd investigate other options. The fact of the matter is that with a webber or dellorto, ramflo's are the only thing that fits... no other options...

Ive always used the Lynx air filters, they are a foam insert and i just oil them with some K&N air filter oil to help filter out the dust.

So, as long as the foam is well oiled it actally filters stuff?

I'm willing to get some different filters, Such as K&N's, but am completely broke at the moment. So in order to get the car on the road I thought I could use my ram flo filters? As long as they actually filter!

Now I have the Maniflow steel inlet manifold on, the cooper s setup doesn't quite fit. :?

Cheers

The Lynx ramflo official oil... comes in a white bottle from Lynx? I think you can use other oil types from other filter companies too

You can use either the Lynx oil, or `UniFilter' oil. I use `Finer Filter' oil `coz I've still got some.
All these `oils' have antiflammable additives for this use. Don't use motor oil!!

Nothing wrong with foam filters IF you oil 'em, and replace if the foam shrinks or starts to break up.
You should see the crud that comes out of my Ramflo(F/F foam) on the Dellorto when I wash it!

I've been using a Ram-Flo with finer filter element and K&N oil (leftover from a prev car) for five years. I just wash it, hang it on the line and re-oil it every six months. No issues except induction noise!
