Post subject: | subframe installation |
so today i was trying to install the rear subframe into my moke, after realising theres 2 different types of hangers and making sure they were round the right way, i persisted at trying to install it after some time i had one the top front bolt of one side in.. what concerns me is how far out the rear hanger bolt holes are is this normal? and how do you overcome it ? ![]() ![]() Nick |

Are both sides looking the same? If not, check the subframe diagonally, it might be bent. |

Are the purple bushes from Mini spares. I have them to instal on my mini. I hope I dont have the same problem, I would put the rubber bushes back on to see if the problem goes away. There appears to be little give with those bushes. Can you use an large screwdriver to align the holes Kiwiinwgtn |

i think i may have found the problem, under further inspection both the front and the rear rear-subframe hangers were these type ![]() but according to the minispares website they were changed for this type in 1976 ![]() if you look closely, the face that mounts flush to the body is thicker on the older mounts (long bolt short bolt type) im guessing this is what is giving me this clearance issue.. ![]() as my subframe and hangers were from the original body which was a '77 im hoping if i find some later hangers it should work no problems... kiwiinwgtn wrote: Are the purple bushes from Mini spares. I could be wrong but I think my 1978 clubman has the mountings as per your first photo |

im not sure if thats the problem or not.. however perhaps the mounts are further forward/back to suit depending on the year |

can't trust info from a UK website in relation to this sort of stuff, Australian rear subframes probably stayed the same from '60 to '81 |

Well it has me stumped Both the aluminum and the steel versions of the long/short mounts are the same according the a local mini shop, I have no idea what would be causing it to misalign |

Put the back ones in and measure the pin to body on the front ones - that'll tell you if there's any bent frames / pins at play. |

They need to be the same. Leave the bushes out and see if the blocks still bolt up - if the pin is hard over to one side you might have an issue. |
