G'day all, Yesterday I put in the headlights and front indicators. Looks like I may need assistance of someone who is more proficient in electrics, but thought i'd throw it to you knowledgeable folk first, for any suggestions. I thought it should be pretty simple, since its a 1963 model with barely any electrics, and i had them reasonably well labelled from when i pulled it apart nearly 10 years ago.. However, I put in the head lights, one is kinda good, but doesn’t work on "parkers" (flick switch to horizontal), only works on (switch down) and can toggle between high and low beam with floor button. The other one, comes on when i flick switch to parkers, but turns off when flick down to on. (Strangely the one that works on the parkers, only has two wires going into it??) I also had issue with the indicators, only the turn right ones worked, the flashing unit thing didnt do anything when turn left, so not sure if the flasher is stuffed or the stalk thingo is no good. Any pointers from anyone? I'm aiming to have another look this arvo before i get too carried away with getting someone over. Also, should i go down super cheap or repco and get some upgraded bulbs/lamps while i am at it (is it H4)? the current ones seem to be the originals from the sixties....... Cheers Mark |

Well worth the upgrade to new lights, but will need to be accompanied with the relay conversion. With the headlights, you need to be sure you have the wires the right way around off the back of the switch. The yare numbered if you look closely, and the picture in the wiring diagram also reflects the back of the swicth layout. Also at the headlight end, if the wiring orientation has been mucked about, they need to be sorted out. Blue/Red to Blue/Red etc etc. There should be three wires from each. One to high, one to low beam, and one as the negative. Watch the orientation at the center bonnet slam location where they pair out to left and right hand side. They can be mixed up here as well. The indicator can be a problem here, but also make sure they're connected through to the lights themselves, there may be an open circuit to the indicators. |

had a bit of time this arvo to have another look at the indicators, I now have 3 working indicators, who hoo. I actually pulled out the ole multi-meter and narrowed it down a few bad connections and globes, but the passengers front one doesnt seem to be getting any power, so will need to try track it back through the car to see prob, easier said then done i guess since all the wires are real old and colors not too clear. I dropped into the local auto parts shop and they can order in a H4 conversion pack for $140, seems a little steep, will have a squiz online. |

I forgot to mention, there's another set of connection points in the engine bay above the speedo, this is where the rear indicators are connected out, so it might be worth checking there as well. |

That is a bit steep - I got these ones: http://www.minisport.com.au/prod983.htm You'll also need some relays and fuses (go for 10A or more), there's not much use replacing the globes without the relays.
