Hi How do you remove the CV joint off of the Rod change transmission so that the engine can be lifted thought the top Cheers |

Just read Doogies engine removal guide he has instructions for it .I'm guessing you have pot joints like me ? To quote Doogie ::Pot joint, you need to undo & break the taper on the bottom ball joint & remove ball joint from control arm & pop driveshaft out of the pot joint viewtopic.php?f=25&t=45377 Cheers Bill |

If you are happy with draining the oil first you can do it another way. In the first post i have a couple photos to help see what i mean. I just lift the motor up a little bit, pop 1 joint out of the diff and swing the motor away so you can pull it all the way out and let it hang down, then repeat for the other side. I fit the engine the same way, dropping it back until you can get 1 pot joint started, and push the motor into the driveshaft to pop it in and repeat the other side. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=78484 I will say though, there is a possibility you will struggle to get them all the way out/in and it may end up quicker to go the long way. Once you know what your doing it's pretty quick though, especially because you don't even need to take the wheels off. Infact the only reason to jack the car up is to undo the exhaust and gearchange, and maybe slide your crane under the car depending on the design. |

Tripple M , i think thats how mine came out , luke and rodney " from here " did it in about 20 minutes for me....... good to know it goes back in the same way .I think the last thing to undo was the speedo cable after you start lifting it out. Cheers Bill |

Yes, as you can see in the picture, the inner cv joint has been removed from the diff and is still attached to the driveshaft. If you wish to leave the outer part of the cv joint in the diff, then you will need to remove the wheels and undo a balljoint so you can slid the axle out. You can either undo the boot and slide the axle with the cage and bearings still attached out of the pot, or you can knock the inners off of the shaft and slide the shaft out of the boot. |

I usually just undo the top ball joint on each side, remove the large boot strap and slide the potjoint inner out of the joint. However, I think if you just undo the boot strap you can just lift the engine straight up. The inners will just slide clear as the outers lift up. Put a towel or somesuch under the diff to catch any of the balls that may fall out of their cages. Cheers, Ian |

It didn't work - even when I popped out one ball joint, I couldn't move the engine far enough to take out the other. Save yourself the hassle and crack the ball joints, buying two more ball joint boots isn't expensive. |
