NZ thinks everything car-related revolves around frontal impact protection, so all the interesting vehicles (the electric vehicles coming out of China for example) aren't legal for NZ roads, so no Moke for us. A real pity since that looks very interesting indeed. The electric version could be all the car most people need for day-to-day driving and a lot of fun too.

Eye of the beholder.

They aren't legal here either - at least not in large numbers - but they can sneak in under some low volume loopholes. Its possible NZ has something similar.

The electric version has a top speed of 60km/hr and a range of 120km - I don't think it's been designed for road.

But apparently the petrol model is a 3cy 1L engine - with 50kW. Should be sprightly enough, provided they don't add too much weight.

I love the idea of it.

BMW have their tarted up version of the Mini, and Cherry have their tarted up version of the Moke...

Gotta do something about those wheels...they are awful.

$22,990 Is my punt. Its the amount quoted on the Moke forum, but sounds believable to me. Whether that represents good value for money is another question entirely.

Expensive at $23000, given you get more power, safety, build quality and features in any $12000 alto, micra, mirage or 500.

You could get an old moke and pay someone to restore it for less than $23k. It'd keep it's value better too.

as much as I love the fact the Moke name is kept alive, I think this thing is terrible.

I kinda wished in some way that BMW went ahead with their 4WD, jacked up, big wheeled, "jeep" look a like take on the Moke....

Not as good as the real thing. Never will be a real Moke.

I'd like to see a side by side comparison compared to the classic ones to see size differences and quality/features etc, also a driving comparison with a 1275 californian would be interesting.

Personally I don't mind it. It looks like the front wheel is further forward and the nose is definitely stretched but the rest, from the windscreen back looks correct.
I Would have liked it if the Binis were more along these lines, as in it could be confused with a real/classic one from a distance.
