When i bought my clubby it had an 1100 in it,the original 998 had been taken out.The 998 is mine if i want to go and pick it up,im wondering if its really worth it,the 998 was blowing smoke and is a bit of an unknown entity. The 1100 has been bored out as far as it will go and at some point in time id like to replace it with a 1275 or another 1100.Is there much sale value on a oldish 998 any advice thanks :)

it sounds like its free. the price is right! if it's not going to cost you anything then you could always strip it for parts to sell, or sell it whole, someone will buy it and you will make a few quid!

Many say that the 998 was a better motor, but if the 1100 runs well theres no point putting the 998 back in if its ratshite.

so like i said, if it's free, sell it or strip it! or if it runs alright, it never hurt to have a spare motor lying around

definately, the 998 was the sweetest smoothest and longest lasting engine for the mini, even though its a fair bit behind the 1100 and 1275 for power.

I would definately go and get it. You said the 1100 was bored out as large as it will go so that means that if you need a rebore in the future you are looking for a new block for the 1100. The 998 and 1100 blocks are the same so that old 998 could provide you with your new block for a rebuild

Keep it Joel, it can be the first thing that you hoard.....you do realise that hoarding parts is synonymous with owning a Mini!
