anyone have an idea what the problem is?

When I put my indicator on it turns my radio off. Could it possibly be not enough power? alternator problem?

not to sure with this.

got a decent size stereo? mine used to do the same, except it was powering off the amps more than turning off the radio.

Doesn't look massive. Only just bought it last week. Still figuring the little things out. What was your solution?

When my battery is a bit low (the car doesn't get used much) the indicators make my tacho needle flick until the battery comes up.

you can narrow that down a bit by seeing if the radio turns off when you put the headlights on - headlights draw a lot more power than indicators.

If the radio keeps working when headlights are on, then have a look at the earthing for the radio

It's a built in safety device, so you don't forget to turn indicators off. :lol:

I ended up having to replace my alternator with something big enough to cope with the extra power demands (stereo, car charger, 12v heater, headlights, etc etc)

I had a lot of other symptoms too though, dimming headlights on idle and all that.

Check your earths, make sure your fan belt is tight, you might not need to replace your alternator just yet :-)

ok so i had a play today and took off some unnecessary lights. Although it doesn't happen as much as it was it still cuts out occasionally when accelerating or changing gears. seems changes in power affect it. Maybe alternator is not perfect...???

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Put a voltmeter across the battery terminals with engine running - should be around 13.8 volts - if not alternator needs looking at

Ohhhhh? I thought it was so that you could hear the blinker can "clicking"....so you don't leave the blinkers running after completing your turn :lol:

So I'm getting 13.9 volts across the battery with the car running. Haven't checked the earth yet cause I have to pull the dash out but any ideas. Still bloody happening. Thanks to all that have helped :)

You said you just put the Radio in recently, Make sure that you connect the earth to the radio straight to earth not to any other wire you might think is an earth! Also check the alternator belt.

You should also do this with the electrical system fully loaded (lights on full beam, heater, radio etc.) to make sure the alternator is still charging efficiently under full load. Test it at engine idle, and 3000rpm.
