have been told by mini sport u.k tapered bearings will not fit as the cv is a different size to disc brake cv?!!!!! has any one put tapered ones in a drum brake set up? this is driving me nuts!

That is BS I have fitted heaps of them.
Yes the CVs are a different size. But on a drum braked car the bearings go on the drive flange spindle, not the CV. It is 1.250" diameter, the same as a disc brake CV is.
