Can anyone tell me what is the size of the bolt that holds the top engine steady on the block?

I seem to have lost the one that sits above the clutch side of the engine.

Thanks!

5/16th UNF and at a guess it's probably 1-3/4" long

While we are on topic of bolt sizes, can anyone tell me what the two sizes for front seat brackets in a 850? (The inside and outside ones are different on mine)

Cheers mark

Possibly 2 and 1/8" long. Pommie cars use HBZ0517 part number.... Are Aus cars the same?

Cheers.

They were all 1/4" UNF threads when built, perhaps some of yours have since been tapped out to 5/16" or 8mm or whatever..

ok thanks for that,

It does make sense, as i need to tap a new thread for one of the brackets (which was a smaller bolt of the two).

Just need to purchase a tapping tool thingo now, should have got it from the fastener place last week when I buying the bolts with wingnuts on them to hold seat to bracket.

Cheers,

According to Mini parts book PUB1056M the long engine steady bracket bolts are part HBZ513 (850), HBZ515 (997 & 998) and HBZ514 (1098 & 1275). The Mini Clubman parts book PUB1052 also shows HBZ514 for the 1098 & 1275 engines.

HBZ5 means 5/16" UNF hexagon headed screw, zinc plated. The suffixes indicate the length: 13 is 1 5/8", 14 is 1 3/4" and 15 is 1 7/8".

The short bolt at the front of the bracket is HZS506 or 507 (doesn't show the reason for the difference), which is 5/16" UNF hexagon headed screws, zinc plated, 3/4" (06) and 7/8" (07) in length.

The seat bracket bolts in both the Mini and the Clubman parts books are HZS405, which are 1/4" UNF hexagon headed screws, zinc plated, 5/8" long.

The short bolt at the front of the engine mount may be different because there is two different outer bracket , one has a spacer between the two metal brackets , longer bolt
the other does not have the spacer , short bolt
GET IT RIGHT or you will end up in the water jacket number 4 cylinder end

These crossmembers are flimsy.
It is pretty common for the crossmember to crack around the original captive seat bracket nuts.
Where the nut has gone AWOL I have fixed a few by drilling 12mm through front and back, then brazing a 12mm dia bar in there with a 5/16" UNF thread tapped in the front. Drill the brackets to 5/16" for the bigger bolts and it's way stronger than when new.
