Evening I'm currently looking at buying one of those 4 pot caliper kits from the uk( see links below)for a Xmas present for my car, but I'm concerned that what l will order will either be wrong or not have all the required parts required to fit over the Xmas break. The car is a clubman running coopers discs/ calipers ATM. Can members who have fitted one oft these kits or similar,please leave positive/ negative feedback? Was it a worthwhile upgrade and was it a easy install. Thanks again.

I bought a kit from minisport once that had incorrect parts with it and it was a complete nuisance to try and get it changed. Now I buy these kits http://www.minisport.com/mini-sport-x-d ... ipers.html fully assembled ready to just bolt on. Have never had a problem with these, have fitted at least 6 sets I can think of off the top of my head.

I too have purchased a 7.9 inch 4 pot kit from minisport.com - I asked in advance if they fit my 10 inch rims and they do
Basically complete bolt on ( with disc CV's )

i bought a kit from minisport 8.4" completely assembled as like yourself wasnt sure on what i needed to buy it individually, also minisport were really helpful in what rims fit the caliper size

I bought the kit from Minisport - been a hassle. Ball joints were so tight they couldn't be moved - had to re- shim. The ball joints are also classed as after market - got in some "genuine" from Minispares but can't tell the difference - both hard to file etc (had some genuine from Minispares from about 5 years ago looked totally different BUT easy to mark with file ? )

Latest hassle is the steering arm is for a pommy steering rack - has a different angle to the Ozzie one and a different size hole for the steering rack ball joint pin.

Only went with Minisport was 1 - ready assembled and bolt in (Ha!)
2 - Minipares were out of stock of some components at the time

Knowing what I know now I would get the kit ( unassembled as they do it) from Minispares and make sure you get the right steering arms. ( and an extra packet or two of shims )

The steering arm should have the same size hole whether early type or UK Mk2 on.

As for the balljoints if you CAN'T file the threaded end I would NOT use them, they are dangerous. The thread should be relatively soft.

OK. - I'm confused ( easy for an old bloke) I have 3 sets of ball joints - all un-used two I can scratch a shallow mark with a V file and make a mark I can catch my fingernail on the on the other I can gouge a screwdriver slot nearly with the same effort .

Which do I use?

(Thought I had to use the harder one?)

If you are going to be buying a bit of stuff from minispares, go over to theminiforum.co.uk and sign up as a TMF+ member. If you link that account to your minispares account you'll get 7.5% off all purchases.

It does cost 5 pounds, but buying a 500 pound brake kit would net you a saving of 37 pounds...

If you are talking the threaded end, all 3 are OK.
But if you can file a flat on the outside of the ball end, they are too soft.

ps. grind a small flat (~1.5mm wide)in 1 spot on the ball OD to let the grease through, if it doesn't have one.
