Hi all,

I have just taken some end float reading and without shims I only have .06 - .08mm.

What end float do I need? Never seen one below the chart info in the manual.

Any thoughts?

Grant

The double row mainshaft bearing is a unit bearing, when assembled with the pinion & the nut torqued up, there is no endfloat.
The inner journal of this bearing is split for this purpose.

Unless you are talking about the shim(s) for the circlip? There should be no clearance there when correctly assembled.

Sorry Kevin,

Yes talking about the bearing "C" retaining plate and its shims, with no shims fitted i have only got zero clearence when normally i have to add a few shims..

I guess it should be alright, i hope i have not loaded the main bearing too much..

I have built a few that needed no shim. These boxes are ~50? years old now!
It all depends where the groove is put in the outer bearing ring.. if that is ever different, so is the shim needed.
Also does this bearing come with a circlip on already (I've not bought one lately) or are you re-using the old one, that will affect it too.

there was no circlip on the bearing.

ok so i should be all ok then, i just assumed i should have some clearence thereif no clearence that means the retainer is on the bearing, the mainshaft still spins freely so all should be fine.

Just need to add the pinion, input gear and torque them up, fit the selector rod and speedo drive case then look at the diff and she is ready for sale.

just been given another 4 syncro remote 1128 box to rebuild also... when will it end lol.

thanks again Doc.
