Hi I reasently baught a morris 850 and found that it has a 998 delux vin aloy tag this is the wrong one as I have been informed my mini shell is an 850
in striping the paint back I removed the aloy id tag of the fire wall and there is a 5 didget number underneath covered in the original paint I have been informed it may be an early mini the did not come out with a compliance plate vin as it is in the spot were normaly round nose minis have a compliance plate

so was there any minis brought out with only the firewall stamped and no tag?

I am rebuilding the mini and am woried that I wont be sble to get club redg or normal redge
the body is to good to give up on.

If you would like to send me through all the details, photos of the numbers and plates you have I will try and make some sense of it for you. Details of the engine number will be needed as well. All info will be kept strictly confidential.

All Minis upto June 1969 had a build plate fitted and as well the body number was stamped in the firewall as well as in the top of the radiator shroud. You usually need to remove the layers of paint to reveal the numbers in the shroud. If it is a Deluxe it should have another number in the shroud as well, namely M2/05. This number is usually very faint and can take some effort to reveal.

Hope this assists and look forward to solving your problem. If you wish send the data to [email protected]
