Hi all
My names Dale and I am a proud owner of a 68 coopers s. Car no: 4270 on the register.
My plan is to restore the car to its original colour and looks.
The car is complete and I have also purchased the few odds and ends I also needed to finish.
I have spoken to Ivan at castle hill and I'm planning on taking it to him to tune as engine is running fine but not 100%
I have spoken to a few people I know and they have mentioned there is a mini minded person in the area I live (wilberforce nsw)
If there is would anyone know contact details or want to pass mine on 0431098358.

I have poked around restoring a few cars in my time but this is my first mini.
A question i did have for the forum I hope you can help is
To remove the shell from the subframe how hard or big is this job.
Can the engine stay mounted to the frame and the shell be lifted up, over and off.

Thanks in advance
Cheer Dale

Congrats Dale. The biggest issue with the subframes in a Cooper S is the hydro and rusted bolts. The engine can stay with the front subframe.

Good to hear you are going back to the original Lake Green / Snow white.

Not sure if you are aware but this has been owned by 2 members on here. "low n blown" and "captainwaldopepper"

Here is a thread about your car. Just disregard the stuff about the other car mentioned 5129. It is a mini K reshell.

Yes, you can remove the engine and subframe from the bottom (that's how the factory put them in), some people like doing it this way, and some prefer to remove the engine first.

Hi All thanks for all the replies.
Yes I will be returning car to original lake green with Snow White roof.
Would love to find these colours in 2 pack is this a hard task to achieve?

For originality I want to keep the hydro suspension rather than change to a dry setup. Would this be advisable for future value. I'm trying to keep the car as original as possible. Interior seating is in great condition. Roof lining is only thing that needs attention.

Is there a link on the forum in regards to the process of removal of the shell from frame.

I can't see a "How To" on it but youtube has a lot of videos on subframe removal.
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... me+removal

There is a little bit in these threads.

Hi Dale
Good to hear the Cooper S is being restored
Minis actually have two subframes, a front and a rear and both are dead easy to drop out (or lift the car off them if you go this way)
There is a bit of preparation required before you can do this but if you pull the motor out first, it's very easy to see what needs to be done
It would be great to see some resto pics on the Forum once you get started
Cheers
Dave
