Guys and gals....

Is there many people out the with an spi or mpi mini?

I ask as I do and thinking about getting a fault code tool, but if someone already has one..... Perhaps I could hook my car up!?

I also blame my Dad for me being 6' 1" - not really the optimum height for driving a Mini.

I think the FI Mini's have an OBDII Port, but it is not OBDII Compliant. It uses something else to read the codes. From memory its something called a Sykes Reader or you need a Testbook. When I was mucking around with Range Rovers, I remember Testbooks being either difficult to get, very expensive, or both.

I don't know of many FI Mini's in Perth, probably have only seen half a dozen, but then I'm not really looking out for them.

Right....

This is a 95 auto spi and has a 3 pin white plug under the bonnet..... Where would the 16 pin be and would there be one as I have the 3 pin?

if there is the 3 pin there won't be the 16 pin.
the 16 pin got normal as the USA made it mandatory from 1996 on. so all systems that were used in the USA too, they have this conector in spite they don't support the OBD2 language.

there are a lot of systems now which support the older diagnosis. universal tester like Snapon or Bosch can work with MEMS 1.6 and later.

if you're handy with building some simple electronics, you need an interface, i could help you with a software. you need a PC with 2 serial com ports, too.
a lot of pre-OBD2 cars are supported, Rover from MEMS 1.3 on. but i only tested it with MEMS 1.9.
