Post subject:  Mini Innocenti 850 Valve stem seized

I have recently been having problems with my Innocenti 850 MK2 mini. The car was firing on only 2 cylinders. I have just removed the rocker cover and tested the clearence of all the valves. I realised that 1 valve does not move, it is seized. Luckily it seems to be stuck at almost closed position.
Any advice on how to free the valve, do I need to remove the head?
Thanks. Rob

You could try giving it a tap with a punch and hammer.

Otherwise its a head off job

If it's stuck almost closed, check that pushrod isn't bent too- give it a spin and see if it's still straight.

Just looked at the valve again. It is half way down and not fully closed as I stated before. There seems to be no damage on the rocker assembly or the pushrod. There is scoring on the pushrod. 2 circles about 2 inches apart.

I took off the head, no damage to the piston, head, valve or pushrod. Released the valve, cleaned it and now back in the head.
Now to rebuild and hopefully it will run a little better.

I would dissemble all of the valves clean and check and put new valve stem seals or o rings.

If one has seized the others could be subject to the same issues grim etc. re lap the valves while you are at it
