I've mentioned this in my other thread, but I'm lead to believe I can purchase an adaptor to convert my swinging needle in my 1.5" SU to the non-swinging needle type. Does anyone know where I can buy these? Cheers mick |

I did this on some 1 & 3/4 SU's. Swapped over the pistons which did work for me. But, I did find that the "jet bearing" was different. This being the tube the jet fits into. The fixed needle ones can be moved around to centralise the jet. The floating needle ones were different, not allowing for this adjustment. Not sure if the 1.5's are the same. |

Yes, and thanks for mentioning it. I was able to pick up a pair of fixed needle jet bearings from Minispares. They were about 10 dollars each and replaced the entire lower jet support assembly. |

The adaptor for the needle is the same as far as I know. |

No, I have a pair of opposite bowl, waxstat, flexible needle 1.5" SUs. The buggerising around is because I don't wish to deal with the waxstat and flexible needle if I can get away with it. The adaptors came in the mail today, I'll get an image and some dimensions up later on to answer the question above. |

Yeah Mick , untill the other day in your other post , i'd never heard of Waxstat needles , so i'm curious . I ended up with an 1-1/2 carby off a motor i bought and whilst cleaning it up i noticed it had a needle that was flexable , ( i'd never seen one before ) , the motor it came off was a Morris 1300 Auto . |

I've not dealt with them, but have heard enough of to figure I don't want to. Its too crowded underneath the mini manifold as it is, I don't want to frig around with them once they're in other than to tune them and forget.... The inserts directly replace the original inserts, and a standard solid needle takes the place of the swinging needle assembly.

I've inserted the brass inserts into the SU piston until flush. The centers needed a little bit of a massage as the needle couldn't be pressed in past the cross drilling. The needles once inserted were centered in the jet by setting the pistons up with the jet enrichment nut and spring removed, and the jet adjusted until the dropping piston makes a nice sweet 'click'. The new jet linkages to convert from waxstat to standard jet are in place and hooked up and it all works smoothly. I reassembled it all, and now they're done. The float bowl is what is pending now.

All I did was put the needle in a small vice just with the edges of the hat sitting on the top of the vice, and gently tap the needle through, then running the crosshatched bit in the wire brush on the bench grinder. |
