Quickie - what was the standard final drive ratio in a 1973 Mini Window Van with 1098cc & pudding stirrer, 4-synchro tranny?

3.647:1. Same as `most' Mini-Ks had.

Thanks Kevin,

I thought the revs were a little high (higher than a 3:44 FD) on my first freeway run after picking up the Van from the docks. The 12" wheel/tyre combination would have mimicked a slightly "lower ratio" and the tachometer was bouncing around a little.

My '73 Van with 1098 and pudding stirrer had a top speed of around 95, so not very tall!

1275 and rod seems to have fixed it.

I had a brief GPS indicated speed of 116 kmh (my top speed on the One Lap) while passing a Road Train in Western Australia, so not even 70 mph with the load.

Not looking for the '73 Van to be a speedster but comfortable & reliable on transcontinental trips in North America, so lower revs. The only problem we have going east is getting over 5 mountain ranges until we hit the 'flat bit' to the east of the Rocky Mountains. Some climbing is required but not heroic efforts.

A 3.44 works just fine with any 1098. It will still zoom-zoom up hills, leaving 998s in its wake. 8)
