you do need to remove the subframes to fit the genuine lines in the genuine place, with genuine bends, but if you're not concerned about originality or having them a bit exposed you can put them anywhere you want... the only real reason the rear subframe needs to come out is to get the pipe under the front edge of the rear subframe, and he only reason the front subframe needs to come out is to make it easier to get it under the rear... you could do it with the front still in the car and just drop it an inch or so.
personally I reckon flexible hoses fed through the crossmember, under the dash, down the door post, through the sills and then over the top of the rear subframe would be the way to do it - kinda tricky to get them in there though
