I have an 850 with a 1275 engine and a mechanical oil pressure gauge.
To keep the interior looking look an 850 I want to remove the mechanical (capillary) gauge and go back to a Switch and light.
Question:-
When installing the Oil Pressure switch in the engine block, should the switch be screwed in dry or should some sealant be used (Teflon tape or Stag Jointing compound, other ?).

It's always a good idea to use a little teflon tape, its easy and cheaply available.
It would probably be fine on its own, but its just good practice to use some tape.

I don't use tape. I prefer to use a liquid sealant. I have seen too many bad things happen with tape in engines.
I use a Loctite product, similar to this....

I have just looked up the Loctite site as I have some 242 medium strength thread locker (although 242 is no longer listed) and it is also a sealant.
I think I will use this.
I understand the risks of using tape and unless you are very careful you could end up with small pieces going whare you don't want it.

You can probably find a similar thread sealer at Bunnings in the plumbing section. It doesn't have to be Loctite.

Any Loctite or similar thread sealant will do, 242, 262 etc. I agree teflon tape is not the best (but many makers fit it std to the switches or senders, like my son's Jeep Cherokee we did a sender on last week).
